I'd suggest drawing the sketch end THEN measure out your body parts. Eventually you wont have to correct the length of the body parts that

Now I mostly don’t need to correct the length of the body parts much or at all and I’m a lot more confident in it. Eventually you can also play around with the measurements and develop your own deawing style. You gotta understand the rules before breaking them!
