Rei lifts the pot from the stove.
Haruka: ……something is missing…… Rei: You mean the stew? What’s missing? Haruka: I don’t know… Rei: Could it be something like mackerel? Haruka: There’s already mackerel in it. Rei: As expected of Haruka-senpai, you’ll not miss the chance to add it… Haruka: It isn’t mackerel that the dish is missing. Rei: Maybe there isn’t enough seasoning? Haruka: I’ve added that in too. Rei: What else could it be then? Haruka: Rei, open your mouth. Rei: Huh?
Rei has a piece of food shoved into his mouth for a taste test.
Rei: Munch munch gulp. Haruka: What do you think? Rei: This is… something is missing. Haruka: I knew it. Rei: (speaking a little quicker than usual) Actually is it just me or did you just nonchalantly did something awfully embarrassing to me uh you’re not even listening are you Haruka-senpai. Haruka: Something is missing… what is it…
Makoto and Nagisa approach the kitchen.
Makoto: Haru, Rei, we’re done setting up the table. Nagisa: Is the food ready yet… hey, why do you guys look so troubled? Rei: Haruka-senpai is very concerned about something missing in the dish. Makoto, Nagisa: Mackerel?
Rei: The way you two are speaking in sync is so beautiful…! But no, there’s already Mackerel in the dish. It’s something other than that.
Haruka and Rei and both troubled. Makoto has a sudden realization and becomes serious.
Makoto: Could, could it be…… Rei: Did you think of something, Makoto-senpai!? Nagisa: Amazing, Mako-chan! Even Haru-chan and Rei-chan could’t figure it out! Haruka: Tell me, Makoto. Makoto: The answer to such things is usually something unexpectedly simple.
Rei: Please don’t leave us hanging! Nagisa: Yeah, c'mon tell us Mako-chan! Haruka: Makoto…!
Makoto: You guys ready? Everyone, listen carefully… the answer is…
A ripple of tension runs through them.
Haruka, Nagisa, Rei: The answer is…?
A pause.
Makoto: (cutely) It’s Love☆
They fall to a dead silence.
Everyone: ……
A long pause.
Nagisa: Let’s eat. Rei: You’re right. Haruka: No food for Makoto. Makoto: EEHH!? Wait a minute! No way~!
◯ At the Iwatobi Station Platform Before Rei and Nagisa became good friends
Rei: Uh, Nagisa-kun? Nagisa: Ye~s, Rei-chan? Rei: Why…are you following me? Nagisa: I thought we should go home together! Rei: ~…(he’s still not used to Nagisa) I did not even say one word about going home with the likes of you… Nagisa: But we have the same train station, so it’s fine, right? Let’s go home together! It’s way more fun to go home with the two of us then alone! Rei: Uh…okay, just for today though.
◯ Inside the Train
Nagisa: Ahh…(falls asleep) Rei: AH! If you’re going to sleep, isn’t this exactly like going home alone? And besides, you shouldn’t use someone else’s shoulder as a pillow! Nagisa: Guh…Rei-chan is so noisy. Rei: Na~gi~sa~KUN~~~~!! (gets mad) Ahhh! We’re at the stop! Come on, wake up Nagisa-kun! Nagisa: Hnn? (sleepy) 5 more minutes… Rei: What are you even saying? We’re going to pass our stop!
◯ At the Iwatobi Train Station Platform Some time has passed, and Nagisa and Rei have become good friends.
Rei: …And that’s what happened. Nagisa: Ahaha, something like that happened? Rei: You can’t make me say that I did not remember that! And besides, your drool was completely covered all over my shoulder! And right now! Nagisa: Hehe ☆ Rei: This is the fifth time! You’re always…always!!! Nagisa: Rei-chan! I learned though! Rei: Wha―what? Looking at me with that sparkle in your eyes…You’re trying to avoid the matter at hand, but I will not allow that! Nagisa: No, you’re wrong! I just came up with an ingenious method! Rei: …Method…? Nagisa: Here we go! A handkerchief! I’ll just leave this on Rei-chan’s shoulder and by doing so, all of my drool will be soaked up with this instead! Rei: I see…so you’re trying to protect my shoulder? Then why did you not prepare this method before you fell asleep while leaning on my shoulder? I just don’t understand! Nagisa: Eh!? But that’s because Rei-chan’s shoulder is…just the right height for me! Look☆ (he demonstrates by putting his head on his shoulder) Rei: “Look☆” AS IF! Please wake up properly. Why is it that every time, every SINGLE time I am the one who has to shake you awake in order to get off at our stop? Nagisa: But that’s because Rei-chan is good at waking me up! So that’s why if I have someone I can go home with, I feel really safe~!
Rei acts really awkwardly because he can’t voice how happy he is to hear those words.
Rei: Please don’t use refer to me as something like a good luck charm… Nagisa: Well, it’s definitely more fun when there’s two of us instead of one! Anyway, let’s go home together~! Rei: Wait a second, Nagisa-kun! Don’t pull on my arm!
◯ Inside the Train Nagisa falls asleep.
Nagisa:*murmurs in his sleep* Rei (to himself): You ended up doing the same thing again…(he starts drifting off)…Ah…this is bad…even I feel like falling asleep now…and the handkerchief isn’t even placed on my shoulder, honestly…! But if I were to move now, I would wake Nagisa-kun…It’s no use…I’m at my limit…
Rei falls asleep. Some time passes.
Nagisa: *grumbles* Wait, waht? Where are we? Oh my god we missed our stop! Hey Rei-cha…wait, he’s sleeping? Haha, I got to see a rare side of Rei-chan~☆ Ah, his shoulder is covered in drool again! I wonder how many times this is now. But times like these call for a handkerchief right!
Rei is still sleeping.
Rei: *snoozing* Nagisa: If we stay like this, we’ll get to the last train stop. I wonder if we can even go home? Well, it’s okay because as long as Rei-chan is here, I know we’ll be all right ☆
